Beyond eBay and Amazon, there are a bunch of good online retailers which provide what you might need at a more than reasonable price. This is especially true with computer/networking/electronics/gaming items, namely accessories. At the office we constantly buy from these places.
Here are a few favorites, ‘hope this helps!
- DealExtreme; they sell low-cost accessories for gaming like the Wii (16$ for 2 2800Mah batteries and charger, can’t beat that), iPod and much more. You’ll spend an hour there and spend few $’s for lots o’stuff. Shipping is included in the prices!
- FocalPrice: like DealExtreme.
- LedShoppe: worth a visit, more of a speciality place but has cool stuff.
- MonoPrice: Egad! They sell at low prices good cables (networking, A/V, HDMI, etc.) and shipping is cheap. Building an home theatre or wiring the office – go there.
- BookCloseouts: the title says it all. Good deals there.
- Abacus 24-7: decent prices, got a replacement cell phone battery (original Motorola)

Wii Fit is amazing! May 27, 2008

I got my unit last week (pre-ordered!) and I’ve really tried it last night for more than 5 minutes. Wii Fit is really cool in the sense that its a video game but you actually do something beneficial for your body.
The kit will calculate a person’s BMI and I’m not thrilled at the first result I got but re-did it and now its more in line with my “curves”. There are a lot of activities in there and I’ve even tried yoga. Me yoga? Yep, it happened in the privacy of my basement where no one can look. I’m more of an old-school type.
Most of the games are fun and the whole family is using it – if you need to move and have some fun, try it!

Wii accessories without the high price tag (shameless plug) February 19, 2008

If you’re like me and paying 35$+ for a component or S-Video cable just sends shivers down your spine, there is hope. Let’s face it, it’ just business, where retailers make almost nothing on the consoles themselves, they have to make money somewhere. But heck, like any good consumer, I refuse to lie down and pay to dollar when I can save a few $’s.
A colleague recommended DealExtreme and here are a few examples you’ll agree with me make a lot of financial sense, and yes, I own each item listed below:
- Wii 2800Mah rechargable batteries w/ charging dock(16$)
- Wii component video cable (6$)
- Wii S-Video video cable (6$)
And there is so much more. Plus shipping is included in the prices! Just expect that it’s not a fast service but it will get there.

Alright, one more Mario title won! My son helped in the last levels as we realized a 2nd player could help out. I’ll shamelessly admit that I suck and loose a ton of lives, but it’s been fun, what a great game! If you can get your hands on this title and own a Wii, do it, it’s one of the best games released in a while. Might get you seasick tough

Finally! I’m not a big gamer but Civilization-style “evolving through time” games have been a favorite type. Now Maxis (famous for their SimCity and Co.) will be releasing Spore, a “SimEvolutionOfLife” on September 7th 2008. It’s been years in the making, let’s home it’s worth the wait!
