With the traded ended, Bob did not (sadly) secure a big mass o’hockey magic power for the playoffs.  Overall, he’s kept the team intact, minus Huet, which at the end might be for the best.  Let’s hope he can secure a scoring-o-matic player like Oli in Florida for 2008/9!

Sudden demand for web sites – how to meet sudden increase in users February 26, 2008

Today is the trade deadline for the NHL before the playoffs and as expected, fans are flooding sites to know the latest news. There is still about 40 minutes to go and information is harder to get to (and office productivity might be down :) )

To help out in these situations where organizations need bandwidth, even for short periods of time, Elfiq can help. Here are a few ideas & suggestions:

  1. With an Elfiq link balancer, you can add multiple ISP links of any type to meet demand, and you can mix & match technologies as you want
  2. When using the Elfiq unit, a “burstable” link is a good choice for these activities, where users can get billed according to usage. If you need it occasionally, it’s there to meet your needs.
  3. Low-cost links can also help, when you add DSLs and cable modem, you can add performance quickly without breaking the proverbial piggy bank
  4. Elfiq’s Intelligent Service Verificator: this tool in the balancers verifies if servers are able to take requests, so when hosting multiple servers this comes in really handy
  5. Elfiq’s Inbound Geolink: when servers are at different sites, this will distribute the load based on policies and availability. Very neat technology.

So that’s that for this topic, if we can help just drop us a line at sales@elfiq.com with your questions. Thanks for reading!

Huet traded & thoughts on the trade February 26, 2008

Christobal Huet just got traded to Washington for a 2nd round pick for the ‘08 draft. What to make of this shocking news?

  • Huet was making 2.75M$ and an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, must be asking for more moolah and Bob did not think he was worth the money
  • That frees 2.75M$ on the salary cap and the Habs are still in the runnings as I type this for Hossa who should get 8M$+
  • Bob & Co are banking on Price and might bring in Halak as a backup, but me thinks that they’ll get a veteran to second price who can also play mentor. Someone sidelined or an unrestricted free agent after the season. Or someone playing overseas.
  • Olaf in Washington ain’t no spring chicken and a UFA at the end of the season.
  • A 2nd round pick?? I think we got short-changed like when we traded Ribeiro..

We’ll miss Huet, he did good while he was here!

Habs Rumor: Hossa getting close to deal? February 21, 2008

Update: Apparently the gloves were for Marcel, Marian’s brother.  Marcel plays for the Rangers and both team have the same color schemes.. The manufacturer brought’em over to Mtl while the Rangers were in town..

La Presse this morning wrote that Montreal-colored gear has been ordered for Hossa- an interesting bit of information! That does not mean that he’s signed but maybe good old Bob is getting really close to signing a key impact player. Apparently the same thing happened a few years ago where the Habs ordered gear for Khabilulin..

Regardless, who should Montreal trade for this? Obviously Ryder, but we have too many defensemen, so I’d get rid of Dandenault and re-sign Streit who’s a unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. Throw in a Grabovski and/or Chipchura and/or 1st/2nd round pick and we could have a deal.
