Just came back from voting and when you look at who’s on ballot and what’s been happening with the two main parties (read: corruption scandals), this occurred to me: Youppi for Mayor!  The main reasons:

  1. He’s orange (as good as a reason as any)
  2. A vast majority of Montrealers love him
  3. He has no mouth making it harder to lie, cheat or mutter stupidities

’nuff said on the topic of the clowns.

Habs win! Congrats to Bruins nonetheless April 22, 2008

Habs won!!!!!!!!!!!  I was sitting stressed out on my couch last night untl Andrei put the 3rd one in.  I usually have the game on and I work on the laptop at the same time but last night it could not happen.

Boston came in the 1st period really strong and thought to myself, we’re goners.  When Mike put the 1st one in, hope appeared, when Mark put the 2nd one in (and what a beauty, eh!) there was reason for stress to go down.

With the riots we got last night (idiots), could it have been worse if the Habs lost?..

Also, congrats to Boston and their coach Claude Julien (who was nick’ed Mr. Potato Head a few years ago), they really came out to play.  Considering that like the Habs, nobody expected the Bruins to even make it even close to a spot in the playoffs.

Now let’s hope we go against Philly, since it’s an easier prey.

Habs Vs Bruins: let the games begin! April 6, 2008

The season is over for the Habs, let’s move on to the real season!

I’m happy we’re facing the Bruins, but worried at the same time.  Out of 16 possible points, the Habs got 16 while Boston got 1.  I think that’s motivation & payback for the season for the Bruins.

With Saku out, and Komisarek coming back possibly for the playoffs, looks like the healthy players will need to double up efforts.

Well, the ‘67 curse ain’t getting broken any time, eh?  Same time last year both Habs and Leafs were fighting for a place in the playoffs and both failed.  This year, Habs are fighting for 1st place in the Eastern conference.   Gotta love this :)

Habs-Leafs in the playoffs? The math works today March 12, 2008

With the Habs in 1st place in the Eastern Conference, and the Leafs still mathematically able to make it to 8th place (72 points, Philly has 79 with 10 & 11 games to go respectabily), it’s conceivable today that both teams could meet in the 1st round of the playoffs this year. Now that would bring a rivalry to the forefront and make for very intense hockey. Habs would still win :)

Okay, we did not get Hossa and I still think we could have gotten more out of the Huet trade, but Habs are doing really well!  They just won against New Jersey and took the top spot in the Eastern Conference.  Can’t wait for the playoffs!

With the traded ended, Bob did not (sadly) secure a big mass o’hockey magic power for the playoffs.  Overall, he’s kept the team intact, minus Huet, which at the end might be for the best.  Let’s hope he can secure a scoring-o-matic player like Oli in Florida for 2008/9!

Woah there!  Looks like the Penguins aim very high (i.e. the cup!) this year!  Two quick armchair quarterback speculations:

  1.  He’s a “loaner” player for the rest of the season
  2. Pittsburgh will get rid of Malkin next year once he’s ready to sign for big moolah

Too bad for the Habs, looks like we won’t get much, alas!

Huet traded & thoughts on the trade February 26, 2008

Christobal Huet just got traded to Washington for a 2nd round pick for the ‘08 draft. What to make of this shocking news?

  • Huet was making 2.75M$ and an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, must be asking for more moolah and Bob did not think he was worth the money
  • That frees 2.75M$ on the salary cap and the Habs are still in the runnings as I type this for Hossa who should get 8M$+
  • Bob & Co are banking on Price and might bring in Halak as a backup, but me thinks that they’ll get a veteran to second price who can also play mentor. Someone sidelined or an unrestricted free agent after the season. Or someone playing overseas.
  • Olaf in Washington ain’t no spring chicken and a UFA at the end of the season.
  • A 2nd round pick?? I think we got short-changed like when we traded Ribeiro..

We’ll miss Huet, he did good while he was here!

Habs Rumor: Hossa getting close to deal? February 21, 2008

Update: Apparently the gloves were for Marcel, Marian’s brother.  Marcel plays for the Rangers and both team have the same color schemes.. The manufacturer brought’em over to Mtl while the Rangers were in town..

La Presse this morning wrote that Montreal-colored gear has been ordered for Hossa- an interesting bit of information! That does not mean that he’s signed but maybe good old Bob is getting really close to signing a key impact player. Apparently the same thing happened a few years ago where the Habs ordered gear for Khabilulin..

Regardless, who should Montreal trade for this? Obviously Ryder, but we have too many defensemen, so I’d get rid of Dandenault and re-sign Streit who’s a unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. Throw in a Grabovski and/or Chipchura and/or 1st/2nd round pick and we could have a deal.
