It’s getting harder to find good bands/artists to buy music from these days without doing some digging first.  One of my favorite lookout points is Last.FM, where they play similar artists to the ones you like.  Bad for the wallet once you hit the jackpot and one fo them is Gapacho from Norway.

This band is just plain good – neo-prog style I guess, if you like Quidam/Riverside/Porcupine Tree/Marillion (w/o Fish) you’re in for a treat.  They do something not all bands are able to do: texture.  Just dive in and enjoy, their best album which I’ve listened to so far is Night, but I’ve only played 2 out of 4.  I actually ordered all 4 to save on shipping :) – just try this sample and you’ll get hooked:

Vista 64-bit any good? Stick with XP? Windows 7? Laptop hunting. December 27, 2008

Hi there y’all!

I’m shopping for a new laptop for my wife so she has her own at home, and not stuck on one of my contraptions :) .  So snooping online I quickly realized that most units these days on the higher-end of consumer-class products run Vista 64-bit – which surprized me.

Apparently 64 is faster than 32 (duh) but is it all worth it?  One of the main benefits is that you break the RAM barrier of 4Gb linked to 32-bit OS’es, which means you can slap in a total of 8Gb on the average unit.  If you take into consideration Windows 7 (aka Vista done right so we hear), maybe just maybe a 8Gb could eventually be useful in the long run.

Should I decide to downgrade to XP – how easy is it to locate drivers?  Egad – why can’t this be easy?  I’m no fan of Vista, but looks like as time goes by we’ll be stuck with it, like it or not.

Here is my conclusion – make my wife want a Mac!  I’ve been aching to get onto Apple’s turf, but she is reluctant.  With all this OS crapola, looks like Apple is the safe bet.

Any comforting words of wisdom?
